1 Year and 75lbs Later…
“I always say the internal growth has been the most rewarding and the physical changes are a bonus.”
Say hi to Joyce! She is an accomplished Food Artist, winning Food Network’s Cake Wars. While sweets are often the hardest thing to kick for new Keto-ers, that part was easy for Joyce.
“I am a sweets business owner, so I had been over cake and sweets years prior. This diet was ideal for me.”
Joyce officially started Keto in February 2019, and has lost 75lbs in the last year. However, her journey of bettering herself started a little sooner.
“My initial start to self love was September 2017. In 2018 I started powerlifting and I lost 100lbs. I competed in January of 2019 in my first ever powerlifting meet and placed 3rd. I was at a point where I needed a change. I had found passion in the gym but now I needed to find passion on how I feed myself. I saw the craze for keto in 2018 and I started to do research. I found this one-week meal plan on google and from there it just made sense.”
In addition to her inspiring weight loss, Joyce attributes much more to Keto.
“I started to build friendships with people in the keto community that were on the same path of self love! As I continued to lose weight I felt my confidence only grow stronger. I always say the internal growth has been the most rewarding and the physical changes are a bonus. Keto has made my skin look radiant, has helped my hair grow, and overall I feel amazing on keto.
Keto has given me purpose. And I know it’s funny to think how can a lifestyle change of eating do that, but it did. In 2017 I was suicidal and I felt lost. I had just spent the last three years accomplishing so many goals in my sweets career but it came at a price. In a competitive community you will find people who will want to tear you apart. Since starting keto I found a community who was there to build each other and that is what has changed for me. Keto isn’t just a way of eating, it is learning to adapt, learning to challenge yourself, and as a bonus you lose weight at a rapid speed.”
What is your advice to others?: “If you are looking to start keto, give it 30 days of full commitment. Track everything and definitely hit the weights. Eating and moving the body go hand to hand. Lifting is important because it builds an inner strength of feeling capable of doing something most can’t. Keto aids in weight loss and helps us see the physical changes we need to keep focused. Remember you have enjoyed the carbs and sugar your entire life. Doesn’t mean you will never get to enjoy them but as soon as you make keto your lifestyle, your wants change and having that bowl of rice becomes a treat, not a need.”
